The Food Pantry Ministry
handles the distributing of bakery items that have
been donated by local grocery stores and members of
the church and community. The Food Pantry also
distributes canned goods in emergency situations and
by appointment.
The hours of operation
for the Food Pantry are on Tuesdays and Fridays from
2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. If further assistance is
needed or if there are any questions about the Food
Pantry, please call the church at (740) 369-4943 and
leave a message.
Patty King is our Food Pantry Director that are
working diligently with a crew of local volunteers to
fill the needs in Delaware County. This
ministry seeks to feed the body as well as touch the
soul of the needy in our community. As local grocery
stores make breads and pastries available to us, we
distribute them twice weekly. Also available on a
quarterly basis, per family, are a variety of canned
and dry goods. Please contact the Church office
and leave a message if you have a need or if you would
like to make a donation to the Food Pantry.
Passage
Proverbs 14:21:
21"He
who despises his neighbor sins, but blessed
is he who is kind to the needy."
Passage
Proverbs 14:31:
31"He
who opposes the poor shows contempt for
their maker, but whoever is kind to the
needy honors God."
Passage
Leviticus 23:22:
22 " 'When
you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap
to the very edges of your field or gather the
gleanings of your harvest. Leave them for the
poor and the alien. I am the LORD your God.'
"
Passage
Deuteronomy 15:7:
7 If there is a
poor man among your brothers in any of the
towns of the land that the LORD your God is
giving you, do not be hardhearted or
tightfisted toward your poor brother.
Passage
Deuteronomy 15:11:
11
There will always be poor people in the land.
Therefore I command you to be openhanded
toward your brothers and toward the poor and
needy in your land.
Passage
Psalm 14:6:
6 You evildoers
frustrate the plans of the poor,
but the
LORD is their refuge.
We honor God
and will be blessed by helping those in need. In
the New Testament, James, the brother of Jesus, writes:
"What
good is it my brothers, if a man claims to have faith
but has no deeds? Can such faith save him?
Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily
food. If one of you says to him, 'Go, I wish you
well; keep warm and well fed', but does nothing about
his physical needs, what good is it? In the same
way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action
is dead." James 2:14-17 (NIV)
Throughout
the year, different agencies and
individuals make monetary donations to
the food pantry. All such
donations are used 100% for items for
the food pantry. None of the
money is used for operational
expenses. All operational expenses are
paid by the Delaware Church of Christ
in Christian Union. The money that is
donated is in turn used by the Food
Pantry Co-Directors to purchase food
items for the food pantry.
